Sure, there is no final definition of maturity. imho the most important aspect is the ability to take responsibilities and be responsible for your actions. And goofing off can be completely mature...as long as you do it in a responsible way :-) maybe an interesting read: http://cms.psychologytoday.com/articles/pto-19950701-000020.html Thats very much what i think about it. (I just got FFX2 and champions of norrath and i cant wait to play it with my girlfriends 12yold son ;-)

i see seriouseness as a very weak indicator for maturity. Surely maturity is about taking certain aspects of life serious, but one can "act" serious without being mature at all!

Quote by forcelordMaturity refers to the transformation of external norms and rules into
internal principles and convictions. This process of assimilation
should be conscious and free, as a person gradually learns to recognize
and appreciate certain values. (but im not mature ^_^' just 15 years)

Very interesting abstract definition, but not sure if i like all the consequences of this definition :-)

f

orange. what it means has already been told :-)

In several threads people talk about maturity/immaturity. What do you think does it mean to be mature? Do you feel you are mature yourself? do you value maturity in others?

f

immaturity/maturity. I find it strange that its especially teenage girls talking about such things. "mature" women on the other hand tend not to be so obsessed about maturity, they seem often more obsessed with youth....Strange

photoshop is no free software, but there is the free alternative gimp http://www.gimp.org/
For most use there is a freeware alternative, but you need to be more specific what you want to do.

interestingly enough the supporters of creationism try to discredit the evolutionary theory with "scientific arguments". How about scientific arguments for creationism? (i know enough against it)
I for myself find nothing farfetched in evolution. Its just sometimes hard to imagine the timescale. And one thing that some people might have a problem with is that if we are just products of evolution, then there is nothing very special about us.

Quote by thelunarmageWith everyone pushing towards OO programming, I think C++ is the most
powerful.

C++ is very powerfull because there are libraries which help you do nearly everything. But from an OO point of view its pretty weak.

mood is quite good. i would cut away a bit from the bottom. the horizon should not be in the middle of the image ( symetry is usualy bad, use the "golden cut" rule. ) and a "widescreen" format works quite well for scenery

f

my first computer was a comodore "amiga". defiitely feminine :-)

f

There is no such thing as a most powerfull language. It always depends on the thing you want to program and how good you know the language. And it depends on what you mean by "powerfull". Generate fast code? Run on multiple architectures? Create mighty programs in small time? Easy to find errors? A good programmer knows when to use which language. I currently use Java, C++, Python because these fit my needs.

f

sorry, your question is quite generic. yes, you could use a pencil and draw something and colorize it after scanning. You could also draw everything with the help of the computer. Its all a matter of your personal preference

f

as for the original question: Programs like for example have a "batch conversion" function which allows you to process whole directories of images. you can also resize this way.

I do have a laptop and i play games on it. I had a desktop but i didnt use it for maybe 2 years except as a printer server. so now i put it into the attic and use my laptop exclusively. but i have a ps2 for gaming too.

Quote by shinsengumi Take, for example, the concept of human rights.
The general view of human rights held by the United States and most of
the developed states of the West is definitely not the view held either
by the majority of people in the world or by the majority of sovereign
states......
Many are fervent believers that all things considered, democracy is the
best form of government. What many neglect to consider is the fact that
democracy requires the assumption of some degree of equality in all, as
well as a cultural compatability. The countries of East Asia, for
example, come from a tradition where the group comes before the
individual, and therefore "traditional" Western political theories
often fall short in explaining political and civic interaction in East
Asian cultures. The question that begs to be asked is thus is democracy
a good thing for such societies, and in fact whether it is possible to
institute democracy in such societies....

Very well put. Now what is the consequence of this insight? How to react to societies with radical different views on human rights/values?

But it doesnt really explain small scale discrimination. Discrimination often starts as soon as when 3 people interact. Humans seem to have the tendency to organise in a minority/majority constellation. I guess its again a psychological problem.

As for wether i came across such things: all the time. What to do about it? Start with yourself. Ask yourself wether you discriminate others. If your answer is "No", ask again and answer honestly. If it is "Yes", do something about it.

But get this... if you marry and have kids with one who isn't within the same race as yourself, then think about your future generations. Your future kids, your family tree will extend down and the races will get mixed further more shall those future generations marry those not within their own race.

so whats wrong with the races getting mixed?

anyways, back on topic. A good, moral driven society would certainly
make that job easier. but at what point do you say "eh, i'll let the
rest of the world raise my kid"? The family really ought to be able to
function as an autonomous unit. Haha, i don't know i didn't come from a
supportive family. have you ever read fahrenheit 451? The parents just
plop the kids in front of a TV for 16 years and let the media educate
their children. And then they wonder why they don't like kids.
just something interesting to think about. thanks for replying ^_^

Didnt read it, but know what you are talking about. Ant too often it is reality.
And on the other side a lot of parents dont realize that they are not the only ones responsible and capable of educating the children. Too often shool and teachers are denied their roles in the education of the children....

f

Hmm, first question is: Why do you think you are a bad influence? You say you are a sensible guy, you seem to really care. Maybe you have a very bad picture of yourself? Maybe a wrong one? Or there is something else you dont want to talk about. Maybe she is underage? Then you should probably wait a bit.
You are surely afraid of something and need to find out if there is substance behind your fears. If it is just your general lifestyle: i dont think that such things matter too much, you can change if you want to and maybe she is a good influence to you!

just fyi, hentai and ecchi are the same thing. maybe other americans
have created a special little classification system just for
themselves, but "ecchi" is how the japanese say the letter H. as in
H-rated. as in Hentai.

You are right, but i belive that the use of a word defines its meaning. I belive that most people in this thread use ecchi to describe a lesser form of hentai so i guess we discuss here not hard porn but mild pantyshots and the like. Images like the ones in the ecchi gallery of mt.

Quote by outofphase
If you draw ecchi, make sure any
links that take people there clearly specify that the user must be 18
or older. I don't feel that owners should be responsible for more.

You should always clearly state what an image is about so anyone who dislikes the subject may avoid it. imho what is in the ecchi gallery of MT is mostly not needed to declare "for adults only"

Quote by outofphase
It's
up to the parents to let their kids know 18 and over actually Does mean
18 and older.
ja

The way you put it it sounds pretty simple. But i think in reality its more complicated. There is a natural phase in the life of a child when it starts disobeying It is usually in the teens and it starts when the child realizes that parents are not godlike beings but mere humans. As parents you have to be very carefull then.
The influence of parents is not unlimited. Thats why the whole society has responsibilities in the upbringing of all children.

Quote by Li-Meii don't try to understand guys, all i know is that they give the best
hugs and that some of them make me laugh and some of them make me wanna
punch them. ^___^

Ah, what a beautifull answer. And thats absolutely what i would say about girls too. Sometimes you just have to apreciate the wonders of the world :-) Live would be boring if you could understand everything

f

Quote by CelessaEcchi is just toeing the line, if it is used in an indecent manner as I
might say. And some people do consider it harmful, parents especially
towards their little children.

Hmmm. I really would like to know how you get the idea that especially parents consider ecchi harmfull. I dont know any parents who consider a cartoon girl showing some panty harmfull and a lot of the people of my age are parents with children around 10 who like to watch dragonball. They might complain about the "mindless fighting" but never about the pantyshots or the pig wearing a panty as a hat.

Questions keep trickling into my mind, some that I still don't simply

Maybe trying to understand is the wrong way ;-) What about trying to accept?

Quote by Celessa
Like why are men in general so obsessed with good-looking girls?

The same reason why girls are obsessed by good looking boys i think.... (If i just think about alle the screaming robbie williams/beatle/nkotb/you name it fans...)

Quote by Celessa
Do they always drool over perverted pictures and think about panties
all the time?

Never think about panties, more about whats under the panties ;-) In fact i dont really understand tis obsession of panties. But who am i to judge...

Quote by Celessa
What's with men getting turned on by females looking at female pics,
while girls don't do the same for guys?

Whuo???? Never thought about that. *makes notes*

Quote by Celessa
Football, hockey? Always goofing off? Do you guys like being perverted
all the time?

You use the word "perverted" quite often.... i am not so much into sports but i guess just everybody has his/her obsession. Whats yours? And did you never encounter anyone who does not understand your obsession/finds it pervert? A lot of people find watching anime pervert....

f

They are cute pets AND tasty food.

f

hmmm.

Quote by CelessaMy best friend caught her
boyfriend looking over some ecchi pics. on the net, and she gave him a
cold hard slap for doing so.

poor boy, should slap back ;-) imho physical attacks are much worse then any ecchi could be.

I think nobody should be ashamed. If someone thinks its wrong, he or she should not do it. If he/she thinks its ok there is no need to be ashamed.
